Current Press Release

On July 12th, 2013 the Maysville Fire &EMS was dispatched to a call that they had received about a female that was having difficulty in breathing. Fire Fighter/EMT Mike Jones and William Hurley Jr. responded to the call. When they arrived on scene they found the patient was not breathing and she had no pulse. They immediately began CPR. After about 12 minutes they had her pulse back but she was still not breathing enough on her own. They
continued to bag the female until the arrival of Jones EMS.

Once they arrived they loaded the patient and started to Carolina East Hospital. While in route they met Craven Paramedics and continued on to the hospital. The female patient was admitted to the hospital for a few days and afterwards she was released and is doing fine. For this honorable deed which resulted in a life saved we present both of these men with the American Heart Award, the Heart-saver Hero Award and the CPR Save Citation Bar. These awards reflect the pride in performing a skill difficult and seeing the efforts when everything comes together and the heart restarts.

Congratulation gentlemen and we are proud to have you as a part of this department. Mike Jones has been on the Dept for 4 years and an EMT for 1 ½ years. William Hurley Jr. has been on the Dept for 3 ½ years and an EMT for 1 ½ years.

Awards were received at the City Council Meeting held on August 1, 2013
